Frequently Asked Questions: Aerial Ash Scattering

WHY CREMATION SCATTERING BY AIR
Aerial scattering of cremated remains or "ashes" is an elegant and ecological way of returning a loved one to the natural elements. Besides being significantly more affordable than a traditional funeral, it symbolizes the freeing of the spirit as the remains are gently released into the winds and ocean currents.
I found a sample essay, possibly better Essay online,- It is very important.

HOW DO WE SHIP ASHES TO YOU?
You or your funeral home may ship the ashes via U.S. mail in a sift-proof container. Be sure to ship "registered mail receipt requested." Mark "Cremated Remains" on the shipping label. The Postal Service can further assist you with these instructions.

WHAT FORMS MUST WE PROVIDE YOU?
Along with the container of cremated remains, you must also send us a completed Airway to Heaven Authorization Form, a copy of the death certificate, and the VS-9 form that you received from the mortuary. If the remains are being shipped from outside California, you must also send along a transit permit from the local health department.

SHOULD I GIVE THE FUNERAL HOME OR CREMATORY ANY SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS?
Let the funeral home or crematory know that the remains will be scattered by airplane. They will prepare the remains specifically for that purpose. If you already have the remains in your possession, we will accept the remains as they are.

WHEN WILL YOU SCATTER THE ASHES?
If the scattering will not be witnessed, then we will scatter the ashes within 10 days of receipt, barring poor weather or other issues beyond our control. But in no case will it be more than 30 days. If the scattering is to be witnessed, such as to coincide with a memorial service on the ground, we will coordinate a date, time and location with you. Upon completion of the scattering, we will prepare a handsome certificate indicating the date, time and location of the scattering.

MAY I COME ALONG?
Unfortunately, insurance and liability issues prohibit our taking passengers for scattering flights. However, you may arrange to witness the scattering from the ground.

WHAT KIND OF CREATIVE OPTIONS CAN YOU PROVIDE THAT PERSONALIZES THE SCATTERING?
Although we do not allow passengers to ride along in the plane, we can play music or pre-recorded prayers when we perform the scattering. We can also arrange to have a small gathering at the airport just prior to departure. Alternately, when the scattering is scheduled and witnessed from the ground, we can also release a cloud of flower petals to signify that the scattering has been completed. As aerial scattering is part of a personal tribute, we are happy to discuss other creative ideas you might have to memorialize your loved one.
